Part 3 – Industry Based Learning (IBL)

After completing Part 1 – Introduction to Adult Echocardiography and Part 2 – Clinical Placements/Rotations, you will enter a comprehensive 72-week Industry-Based Learning (IBL) program. This phase provides advanced practical training designed to refine your skills and prepare you for an independent career in cardiac sonography.

You will work under the supervision of experienced mentors at Heartscope-operated clinics across Victoria and potentially other parts of Australia, while being enrolled in an official cardiac sonography program at an accredited Australian institution. With opportunities to earn a salary during this phase, you’ll gain the confidence and expertise needed for modern echocardiographic procedures, such as stress echocardiograms, strain imaging, and bubble studies. Additionally, completing the IBL program qualifies you for a support (clinical placement) letter from our senior cardiac sonographer and partner, Heartscope, which is required for your sonography course.

The IBL placement has limited availability and requires a successful interview. This component is designed to provide practical experience and prepare you for a career as a cardiac sonographer.
