HLTAID009

Provide CPR Course

The annual CPR refresher. A short online module, one 2-hour practical session in person, then your Statement of Attainment.

What you'll learn

Practical CPR skills, taught and assessed in line with current Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines:

Units of competency

Provide CPR includes one nationally recognised unit from the HLT Health Training Package:

  • HLTAID009Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

How it works

1

Do the theory online

Work through the short module at your own pace before class. About an hour for most people.

2

One practical session

About 2 hours of hands-on CPR and AED practice in a small group with a clinical educator.

3

Get your certificate

Pass with your theory complete and we email your Statement of Attainment within 1 business day.

How you're assessed

You're assessed hands-on in the practical session: you demonstrate 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin at floor level, CPR on an infant manikin, and use of a training defibrillator, then respond to a simulated cardiac arrest scenario with your trainer.

The online theory covers the knowledge side and includes short quizzes you complete before class. Your trainer coaches you through every skill before it's assessed.

The CPR assessment is performed at floor level and is physically demanding. If that's difficult for you, tell us before you book and we'll talk through what adjustments are possible.

Who this course is for

Most people in the room are renewing: GP, dental and allied health staff whose employer or registration expects annual CPR, fitness professionals and swim teachers, and workplace first aiders keeping their CPR current between 3-yearly first aid renewals.

It also works as a standalone course if you want CPR skills without the full first aid certificate. You don't need any experience.

Want the full certificate? HLTAID011 Provide First Aid includes CPR plus injury and illness management.‍

Before you attend

Enrolment, your details and your USI are all handled in the student portal when you sign up, so there's no paperwork to bring on the day.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the course take?
About an hour of self-paced online theory, then one practical session of about 2 hours. Once both are complete, your certificate is emailed within 1 business day.
How often should CPR be renewed?
The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends every 12 months, and most workplaces and professional registrations follow this. If you opt in, we'll remind you before your CPR and first aid renewals are due.
Does HLTAID009 include first aid?

No, it covers CPR and defibrillation only. The full workplace certificate, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, includes CPR plus injury and illness management.

Can you run CPR training at our clinic or workplace?

Yes, annual on-site CPR refreshers for clinics are one of our most common bookings. For groups of 10 to 20 per session we bring the trainer, manikins, AED trainers and all assessment materials to you, anywhere in metropolitan Melbourne, and can also schedule evening and weekend sessions. Every group quote includes a free WorkSafe-compliant first aid risk assessment. Request a group quote.

Do you supply workplace first aid kits?
Yes. We supply WorkSafe-compliant base kits and customise add-ons to suit your site, such as adrenaline auto-injectors, asthma relief inhalers with spacers, AED supplies and signage, and burns modules. We quote kits alongside your training, so mention them when you enquire.
Do you run online or virtual CPR courses?
No. The practical assessment must be done in person on manikins, so all training and assessment is face to face. Only the theory is completed online beforehand.
What if I don't pass?
If you don't meet a requirement on the day, we arrange another attempt with you. Trainers coach you through every skill before it's assessed, and you get feedback as you go.
